The Butler
County Buck
DISCLAIMER:
Cedar Creek Plantation does not claim to have
today, have had in the past, or to have in the future a deer of this
caliber. The hunter claims this buck was taken in the surrounding area, however, most
of our mature bucks will never grow to this size. Do not expect to
harvest a buck this size on your hunt at Cedar Creek Plantation.

The Hunter's Story
In early January, pictures of this buck started circulating around local
hunting clubs and eventually on the internet, with the similar story that
a local deer processor and taxidermist had claimed to killed the deer in
northwest Butler County. The hunter claimed
that the deer was legally harvested on private property. When the
pictures first surfaced, the rumors surrounding them ranged from expected to outrageous. Many
believed that the photos had been digitally edited and that the rack does
not exist at all. There was also large speculation that the deer may
have been taken at night or illegally in some way. Others claimed it
was shot in Canada and flown back to Alabama. The claimed unofficial B&C score for the
deer is 205" gross and 200" net, scored as a typical 12 point rack.
If verified, the buck would have been the number one all-time typical buck
from the state of Alabama.
The Rest of the Story
Enter Van Dykes Taxidermy. Van Dykes sells reproduction
racks for whitetail deer. It turns out that they have one for sell
that has strikingly similar characteristic to the one that the processor
had claimed to kill. Gary Beigh, the creator of the reproduction
rack should be proud. His rack is so realistic that someone could
buy the rack, mount it on another deer's head, take lots of pictures of
the deer and convince many people that he had killed it. What
would be someone's motivation for claiming they had killed a buck that
they hadn't? Bragging rights to your buddies, publicity for yourself
or business, or personal reasons we can't understand. In today's
world, we know that you can't believe everything you see. But if you
can't take a man for his word, there is not much left to believe.
Take a look at the reproduction rack for yourself. The
